No sooner did Mikhail Botvinnik regain his title, the chess world became entranced by charismatic young Latvian named Mikhail Tal. Tal won the 1958 interzonal tournament at Portoroz, then helped the Soviet Union to retain the Chess Olympiad; before going on to win the 1959 Candidates Tournament with 20 out of 28 points–a point and a half ahead of second place Paul Keres.
Tal often sacrificed material in search for the initiative in chess. With such intuitive sacrifices, he created vast complications, and many masters found it impossible to solve all the problems he created over the board, though deeper post-game analysis found flaws in some of his conceptions. Although this playing style was scorned by ex-World Champion Vasily Smyslov as nothing more than “tricks”, Tal convincingly beat every notable grandmaster with his trademark aggression.

    And it's no sacrifice
    Just a simple move..
    It's two pawns living
    In two separate worlds

    But it's no sacrifice

    No sacrifice..

    It's no sacrifice at #TAL

6:29 I don't understand why white plays rook to C7 instead of capturing the pawn on A7 straight away, and then black wouldn't be able to capture the pawn on A2. What am I missing? 🤔

6:44 what if the light squared bishop(tal) captures the knight..the other bishop cant capture back because of the pin..

Every good sacrifice gives a good result after few moves. But Tal's sacrifice gives its fruit after a long time and his opponents were in deep trouble which move would made by Tal. He has changed the meaning of combination or sacrifice. But he cannot be followed like an amateur like me.

6:46 why not bishop capture knight so white can't capture as the bishop is pinned?? King f2 is not possible as rook captures bishop with check and white captures bishop and you are simply up a piece?? 🤔

    That move was menTal!
He didn't go genTal on him!
Botnivik needs denTal surgery after that punch in the face or at the very least he is winded and should be put on a VenTalator
It's great he won the overall match but seen as Botnivik won it back the next year I guess it was just a renTal. #Tal
